Rimmel Extra WOW Lash mascara review

Link
I've tried several Rimmel mascaras in the past. I only really liked and have repurchased is their eye magnifier. I have a few other short and sweet Rimmel mascara reviews here if you're interested.

Extra wow lash is marketed as a layerable type of mascara, basically you control if you want more or less of a dramatic look by building layers.

The brush is mid sized and has a somewhat fluffy wand, the bristles are large and dense.
I found it quite easy to use and it didn't get all messy like some mascaras do.

extra wow lash wand:

I played around with this mascara and it is totally buildable. It looks good with one or two coats, but really starts to look intense with 3-4 coats - and no clumping either.
That is a major plus in my books because I love layering mascara.

with 2 coats:

with 4 coats:

You can see it adds some length and volume, slightly separates too.
I found it didn't hold curl as much as I'd have liked, but it didn't weigh my lashes down either.
It has a basic formula that is sort of wet to enable lots of layering.
Wear wasn't bad but it did start to flake on me after 6 hours - this is mainly when I put on lots of layers.

Overall, if you are on a budget this mascara is a pretty decent one to get from the drug store. It's so cheap I say try it out! I found mine on sale, I think it cost $3.97 or something crazy.

Repurchase? maybe - if I am in need of a cheap mascara fix!

NOTD: playing with flakies and duo chrome polishes

I did this NOTD a while ago, and it is one of my favorites ever.
I was bored, and I decided to try layering a few different polishes, to achieve a really cool finish.
I used a duo chrome base, added flakies and then added a sheer multi chrome glitter on top.

Here is what I used:

- 2 coats Rimmel night before (deep violet blue with slight gold/pink duo chrome)
- 1 coat Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure (rainbow flakies)
- 1 coat Nicole OPI count on me (iridescent pink/gold/blue/purple multi chrome)

The result:

check out the gold/green flakies in this light:

The Nicole polish brought out the red and blue flakes in Hidden Treasure:

This combo was awesome to look at. I had it on for at least a week.
I got lots of compliments too.

I plan to play around more with layering polishes, especially flakies. They take on a whole new look when you put a sheer polish over them.

What do you think? Any ideas for layering?

NOTD: Joe Fresh twilight swatches and photos (pic heavy)

For once us Canadians have something cool that other countries don't. It's Joe fresh style nail polish in twilight.
This polish is so amazing I almost had a heart attack when I found it at Zehrs supermarket. Only $4 CAD, ya that's amazing.

The colors in this polish are really really unique.
To start we have a blackened green jelly-like base. Then it is just loaded with flakies that change colors from copper to orange and deep green to emerald green.

The formula isn't the greatest and it works best over a base coat. I used one coat of rimmel 'night before' to start with. In case you were wondering this is a dupe of claire's 'magic' nail polish.

My apologies as my nails are messy since I was in a rush doing these swatches and trying to get ready to go out!

Rimmel night before (1 coat):

Then I applied 2 coats of Joe twilight. It was glossy, and absolutely gorgeous. I must have stared at them for 15 minutes or so.

Joe twilight (2 coats):
After taking about 30 shots I realized that this polish looks best in person. Photos cannot capture it's beauty!

Then I decided to try it matte and I applied one coat of rescue beauty lounge matte top coat. It looked really cool. The flakies popped more and my nails looked like some rock candies.

After applying RBL matte top coat:

Love this polish so much! I don't know if it's LE or not, but you can find it (hopefully) in stores that carry Joe Fresh style cosmetics. They include loblaws, superstore and zehrs markets.

NYX doll eye mascara volume extreme black review

I don't know why I didn't try this mascara sooner, I heard some great things about it long ago.
It comes in a cute box and the mascara tube itself is shaped nicely. It looks like a high end mascara.

The wand is slightly round and thick at the very top, and it tapers in before flaring out again slightly at the bottom. I haven't seen a wand quite like this before. It reminded me a bit of Rimmel sexy curves mascara wand.

I found doll eyes volume to build up volume very quickly, leaving me with nice and plump, thick and slightly longer lashes. The only problem was that it clumped really easily and quickly as well. I can't layer on this mascara as I do with others, or my lashes start sticking together and looking horrible.

Here is 2 light coats of doll eyes volume on my lashes :
With 3 coats it starts to clump up:
4 coats and my lashes start to stick together completely:
This is not a bad mascara, but not one that you can just throw on before running out the door. I always found I put too much on no matter how lightly I applied it and it would clump.
I didn't find it to be 'extreme black' at all, it was more average black.
It never flaked, smudged or smeared through the day - which was surprisingly great.
I found that application was slightly uneven and I think it's because of the odd shaped brush. I had the same problem with sexy curves mascara.
I do like using doll eyes on my bottom lashes, the wand is great for getting those hard to reach mini-lashes.
If you are willing to take a little bit of time to apply this and comb through your lashes you might really like it.

Repurchase? No, just not for me.

Dior Diorshow iconic mascara review

Diorshow iconic is another in the lineup of Dior's mascara's designed to give extraordinary results.
The claim: 'The extra-hold formula provides a 24-hour-curl with 100% smudge-proof results.'

The wand is completely different from Diorshow, as is the formula.
The brush is loaded with tiny teeth that are meant to separate your lashes one by one.

The wand:

I have to say that the formula is rather odd. It doesn't really dry. It seems to hold onto moisture and stay flexible.
I know this because I had an interesting experience after using this the first time.
A few hours after I had applied it I felt sick and took a nap. I got up and started to fix my makeup, I looked at my lashes and was horrified! They were completely bent out of shape and sticking up in different directions. None of the mascara had smudged or flaked at all. Instead it completely stuck to my lashes and acted like a gel to hold them up any way they moved. It was weird.

The brush really curls your lashes upwards, as you can see my lashes look quite lifted here:

2 coats:
Two coats and my lashes look defined, a little longer and thicker. Nothing spectacular. I'm not overly impressed.
With the so-so results of two coats I try layering more, and this is what happens:

4 coats:
I get the length and volume I want but my lashes start to go a little wonky! Not to mention it starts to clump. Iconic does not do well with more than 2 coats.
So here is what Iconic is good for, curling up your lashes. It didn't smudge smear or flake, but it was also very hard to remove. I ended up losing a few lashes just trying to get it all off! It really sticks.

Overall, I am unimpressed with the results of Iconic. If I want length and separation I will buy a drugstore mascara. If I want my lashes to look curled I will use an eyelash curler. I was expecting more for $30 dollars. I would not reccomend this to anyone.
A great mascara to lift and lengthen lashes is Rimmel eye magnifier, you can see my review here. It does just as well a job as Iconic.

Here is a pic of me wearing Rimmel eye magnifier - just as good as Iconic! (actually better) :

Repurchase? no.

Rimmel stay glossy lipgloss black diva photos and swatches

Something (else) I am a little obsessed with, is black lip gloss!
I am used to using sheer black glosses that just give your lips a hint of darkness, but this one surprised me. It's truly opaque black!

The stay glossy line is supposed to last 6 hours on your lips. Well I think they do last quite a while, I was pretty impressed.

It's hard to get a nice and even application of such a dark color, but it sheers out nicely.

I smoothed it a bit with my fingers to lighten it up a little.

It was still too dark, so I took off a bit more, and I loved the result!

In case your wondering, I am wearing circle lenses! you can see my review on them here.

I love using a black lip gloss over bright pink lipstick, it gives me a really unique purple toned color that I adore. Try it!

My NOTD Rimmel grey matter

Yes I really love grey nail polish. I have tried so many and only a few actually look ok on me. This one is alright. It tends to look blueish though which I don't like. It goes on darker than it looks in the bottle.
It's not really glossy, kind of looks flat. I am on the fence about this one. Still hunting for that perfect grey color.

Rimmel mascara reviews

Rimmel lycra lash extender

I think I give up on rimmel. I don't really like any of their products. I used to be obsessed with eye magnifier mascara, until I discovered Prestige my biggest lashes.

lycra lash extender is a great lengthening mascara. But that's all it does.
It is *excellent* to layer over other mascaras to add on length!
price $5.99 CAD
rating: 3/5

Rimmel sexy curves

Don't waste your money on sexy curves. It made my lashes go wonky, see pic above.
The wand is wavy, and caterpillar like, not very fun to work with.
Just horrible!
price: $8.99 CAD

Rimmel eye magnifier

If you want a rimmel mascara, this is the best of the bunch!
It lifts lashes at the root, so you can skip your curler. It lengthens nicely, and adds volume too. The only major drawbacks are that it is hard to wash off, and it dries up quickly.
Oh and don't bother with the eye magnifier "exact definition" mascara, the wand is super flimsy and does not do anything noteworthy for lashes.
price: 8.99 CAD

Glam eyes lash flirt...

Glam eyes lash flirt is pretty mediocre. made my lashes spiky, hate that.
The intense "kohl black" is a gimmick. It's no different than any other black mascara I've used.
the brush on this is prickly, but it does a good job of grabbing every lash.
It lengthens a bit, doesn't add much volume but defines lashes well.
Not horrible, but not so good. It also dried out fast, within a month.

blah rimmel you kinda suck.
